Anti-war Americans have no home with the Republicans and Democrats

Last week, President Joe Biden began his second month in office by ordering an airstrike in Syria without receiving congressional authorization. At about the same time, Biden received a US intelligence report that confirmed what has long been known: that the brutal 2017 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi was authorized by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman . Despite the report, Biden failed to hold bin Salman or Saudi Arabia accountable.

Throughout his campaign, President Biden vowed to end “forever wars” and to take a harder line with Saudi Arabia. When given the first opportunity to do those things, he fell in line with what has become the status quo in Washington.

Opinion polls continue to show that at least 3 in 4 Americans want to end our foreign wars and bring the troops home. Republicans and Democrats recognize this, which is why they make promises during their campaigns, yet these promises have been proven to be nothing more than lies. We have entered the third decade of the “War on Terror” and the unholy alliance between the United States and the royal family of Saudi Arabia is as strong as ever.

The Libertarian Party was founded in 1971 in no small part due to the United States then entering the sixteenth year of the Vietnam War. Our principles have remained consistent and steadfast for the last 50 years. From the Libertarian platform:

3.1 National Defense

We support the maintenance of a sufficient military to defend the United States against aggression. The United States should both avoid entangling alliances and abandon its attempts to act as policeman for the world.

In 2020 it is more apparent than ever that neither old party is interested in listening to the American people and ending our military entanglements around the world. Our leaders have grown obsessed with power and become disconnected from the devastating effects of the human rights violations they have ordered. The Libertarian Party will not waiver on our calls to end the wars, bring the troops home, and to stop re-electing those who fail to honor this promise.

If you are among the majority of Americans who want to see an end to soldiers and civilians dying in wars, and you want leaders who will not make excuses for murder and war crimes, let today be the day you join the Libertarian Party. For 50 years we have been a home to those who do not feel represented by Republicans and Democrats — and more people than ever are finding that home right now.
