Dear Libertarian,
We have so much going on in the Libertarian Party that many of our members are not aware of. One of my New Year’s Resolutions is to help change that. I want share with you more of the critical work we are doing on your behalf…work is critical to setting the stage for future elections and future successes.
For example, we are currently working through the courts in ARIZONA, ARKANSAS, ILLINOIS, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, SOUTH DAKOTA, and VIRGINIA in pursuit of fairer laws for ballot access.
We don’t ask for special treatment. We just ask that the system is fair for all, including us.
IT IS WHAT LIBERTARIANS DO: When laws are unfair, we try to strike them down and, if that’s not possible, we’ll work to at least make them fairer.
WE HAVE REAL WINS IN THIS ARENA ON A REGULAR BASIS.
For example, we recently won a case in Connecticut. The state had banned out-of-state petitioners. We argued that was unconstitutional. And the judge agreed with us! This will make a meaningful difference in our ability to achieve ballot access in Connecticut in future years.
In 2016, we won a judgment striking down Pennsylvania’s unconstitutional laws that penalized minor party’s and independent candidates by forcing them to pay $80,000 more when private parties successfully challenged their nomination petitions. This lawsuit ended a decade-long period when Pennsylvanians had no choice in statewide elections but to vote for Republicans or Democrats.
And, in recent years, we’ve won other lawsuits to strike down unconstitutional restrictions affecting our ballot access in Virginia and District of Columbia.
These legal cases are just part of our critical ballot access work!
In fact, NO ONE HAS DONE MORE TO IMPROVE BALLOT ACCESS LAWS OVER THE YEARS THAN THE LIBERTARIAN PARTY.
We are the standard bearers on this and we have the nation’s experts working on our behalf.
We are committed to retaining ballot access in all 50 states and DC every year from here on out. To make this happen, THERE ARE MANY ELEMENTS THAT WE MUST PURSUE YEAR ROUND.
But this critical work is only possible with your support.
If you’d like to contribute to our work on cases such as these that help ensure your right to participate in the political process, please consider a donation to our Legal Offense Fund.
As always, thank you for your support!
