A U.S. District Court judge granted injunctive relief to the Libertarian Party of Kentucky and ordered the state to put the party’s nominees on the ballot for the November 2019 election.
The Libertarian Party is ballot-qualified in Kentucky, and it nominates by convention, so no candidate petitions were required. The problem for the party was that the legislature earlier this year had moved the declaration of candidacy deadline for the state and local nominees of convention parties from April to January. H.B. 114 had been signed into law on March 19, so by the time it was in effect it was already too late for the declarations to be filed.
The 2019 Kentucky Libertarian Party candidates who will appear on the ballot are:
- John Hicks — Governor
- Ann Cormican — Lt. Governor
- Josh Gilpin — Agriculture Commissioner
- Kyle Hugenberg — State Auditor
- Kyle Sweeney — Boone County Clerk
