This is the Championship round. Which theme will emerge victorious and become the official theme of the 2020 Libertarian National Convention? You can help determine that with your donation.
You may be thinking to yourself, “What am I voting for? What is Ancapistan or TANSTAAFL?”
“Ancapistan” is an embodiment of anarcho-capitalist ideals. It’s a version of that shining libertarian city on a hill, a Camelot of sorts, a libertarian utopia. Urban Dictionary defines “Ancapistan” as “A hypothetical area of land and/or water where the society is under a Libertarian system of Anarchy known as Anarcho-Capitalism, which is used as a short-hand to ask theoretical questions of how society might function under Anarcho-Capitalism.”
“TANSTAAFL” is the acronym for “There Ain’t No Such Thing As A Free Lunch,” popularized by Robert Heinlein and Milton Friedman. It was the official theme of the Libertarian Party for its first eight years. It means no matter how “New” the “Deal,” it’s always going to cost “Green.” Someone will always have to bear the cost, and there are hidden costs for everyone, including the recipients. Nothing — be it a lunch, a road, or a wall — is ever free, especially when government is involved.
What do these themes have in common? They represent opportunity as conversation starters. Which conversation do you wish to have? Make your play and make it happen.
The 2020 Pay-to-Play Libertarian National Convention Theme Contest brought 58 unique themes. Through multiple rounds we’ve narrowed the choices to these final two, and brought in a total of $17,512 toward convention expenses!
Theme totals are cumulative, and carried throughout the whole contest. The winning theme will be determined by donations (votes). One dollar equals one vote, so vote early and vote often! Voting runs through the close of April 9, ending at midnight Pacific Time.
Keep in mind that theme contest donations count toward national Libertarian Party membership. A single donation of $1,500 also gets you that Lifetime Membership you’ve wanted AND could help your favorite theme win.
What are you waiting for? Take your game-winning shot before the buzzer!
