Dani Cronce, an elected Democrat on the Binghamton, New York city council, changed her affiliation to the Libertarian Party on June 12. Binghamtom has a population of about 47,000. Cronce announced her party switch the same day on Binghamton Now With Bob Joseph, a radio show on WNBF-AM.
Binghamton city councilwoman Dani Cronce has had enough of the Democratic Party.
Cronce announced her decision to switch party affiliation during a Wednesday morning broadcast interview.
Speaking on WNBF Radio’s Binghamton Now program, Cronce revealed she had visited the Broome County Board of Elections office minutes earlier to enroll in the Libertarian Party.
Cronce said for “the last three-and-a-half years I’ve been going up against the Democrats.” She accused party members of “constantly making up lies and rumors.”
Cronce maintained Democrats in the city have been “trying to breed hate.” She said “they say that they’re against hate but they are the people that are pushing the most hate.”
Cronce said she’s not a Republican. She said Republicans seem to be “out of sync with America, they’re out of sync with their community.”
Cronce previously announced she would not seek a second four-year term to represent the 3rd district on city council. In the past, she had said “liberal” Democrats were trying to “suppress” her views.
Two years ago, Cronce endorsed Republican mayor Richard David for reelection. She has indicated she is considering running for mayor in 2021, when David can’t run because of term limits.
With Cronce’s change in enrollment, there now are two Democrats on the seven member council.
