Candidate Bio

Travis Jon Vought is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and former Staff Sergeant specializing in Human Intelligence (HUMINT), with deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. His military experience focused on interrogations, risk assessment, and understanding how individuals and systems behave under real-world pressure. That foundation continues to shape his approach to leadership and problem-solving: outcomes matter, and systems must work in practice—not just in theory.

Following his service, Travis built over a decade of experience in financial crime compliance, AML/KYC, and risk management at a global financial institution, where he served as a Vice President. His work included sanctions policy, anti-corruption controls, due diligence on complex investments, and the design and maintenance of global policies and procedures. He focused on identifying where systems break down—especially when incentives, bureaucracy, and control structures fail to produce the outcomes they are intended to deliver.

Travis brings a systems-driven, execution-focused perspective to public policy. He believes many of the challenges facing Ohio stem from structural issues—systems that are too complex, too costly, and too difficult for people to navigate. His approach emphasizes simplifying processes, reducing unnecessary barriers, and aligning incentives so that policies produce measurable, real-world results for everyday people.

In addition to his professional experience, Travis has developed community-based initiatives supporting veterans, including efforts to provide services, stability, and opportunities through local networks. His work is grounded in the belief that strong communities are built through practical action and shared responsibility.

As a candidate for Ohio Governor, Travis is focused on restoring accountability, improving economic mobility, and ensuring that systems work for the people they are meant to serve—not against them.
