Candidate Bio
Morey Straus is a Portland homeowner and software security leader who moved from California — not, he insists, to make things worse. Having watched the Bay Area prove repeatedly that you cannot regulate your way to affordable housing, he arrived in Oregon in time to watch Oregon try anyway. He finds this instructive.
He is running for Oregon House District 42 as a Libertarian because the Libertarian Party is the only party whose platform does not require pretending history didn’t happen. His positions on housing, drug policy, homelessness, and taxation follow from a single unfashionable premise: that people are capable of managing their own lives, and that the primary obstacle to them doing so is usually the government. He is not running to make friends in Salem. Salem has enough friends.
