Candidate Bio

Matthew Laszacs is a business executive with 20 years of experience building and leading successful teams. A military BRAT (born, raised, and transferred), Matthew was born in Philadelphia, PA, raised in Millington, TN, and moved to North Carolina in 2001 where he has resided ever since.

Laszacs earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from North Carolina Wesleyan College while working full time and raising two children. Balancing work, education, and family responsibilities provided him with firsthand experience navigating the complex systems and constraints faced by working families.

Through his professional experience, Laszacs observed that capable individuals often struggled not because of a lack of effort or ability, but because of inefficient or overly complex systems. This experience helped shape his interest in institutional design, incentives, accountability, and outcomes. He summarizes this view as, “People are not broken. Systems are.”
