Jesse West
Candidate Bio
Hey! My name is Jesse West and I am a 30-year-old skier and attorney here in Salt Lake City Utah. I am currently a Brighton season pass holder, family law practitioner, and the Chair of the Salt Lake City Libertarian Party. I am not a career politician and I am not from Utah. I started visiting Utah in 2018 to ski and visit friends. I came back in 2019 because I loved it. I came back in the summer of 2020 as well. When I graduated from school, I chose Utah because I fell in love with the natural beauty, the snow, and the people.
I greatly value my time outdoors and with nature. When I’m not in the courtroom or in the office, I try to get outside with my dog, friends, and with the wild beauty of Utah. I believe in a spiritual connection with nature and I am currently an inactive member of The Divine Assembly. A lot of folks from other places are intimated by the strong religious culture of the LDS church. I came from a very religious community in Tennessee and was raised baptist so I never felt that intimidation. I am fascinated by the community and speak with missionaries and members about philosophy and theology. I really appreciate how integrated the Utah Libertarian Party is in terms of religious beliefs. While we may have different beliefs, we share common ground on liberty and freedom. I think it’s a truly amazing representation of our State and I hope to share that with everyone in this campaign.
Finally, I’d like to address the Whale. Many people are aware of the lore regarding the “Out of the Blue” statute on 9th. I believe this representation of our culture is a banner in which everyone in our State can unite. I gladly take up the mantle of the Liberty Whale as an effort to ensure we protect our environment and save the Great Salt Lake. In running for congress, I hope to represent the Whale, the ski community, the LDS faith, and the Great Salt Lake in Washington D.C. by 1. Ending needless wars, 2. Fighting for our environment, and 3. Ending the federal death penalty, 4 Reducing Taxes and 5. Opposing oppressive Immigration enforcement
A vote for me is a vote to Ski not War.
