Candidate Bio
Heather McElwain is a Wasilla mother of four running as a Libertarian write-in candidate for U.S. Senate in Alaska.
Born in Phoenix, she came to Alaska as a child after her mother, a police officer, moved the family north. She grew up in Eagle River, spent summers in Soldotna and Seward, and has lived 32 of her 39 years in Alaska. She left the traditional high school track at fifteen, earned her GED, and completed a trade diploma at Career Academy — an experience that shapes her push for recognized trade credentials students can finish in 18 credits and carry straight into a career.
Through the North Lakes Community Council and her own village outreach, she has organized salmon deliveries, firewood, and emergency supplies for communities the system tends to skip.
She is running on a one-term commitment. She accepts no campaign donations, will not trade stocks in office, and has pledged to donate two full years of her Senate salary to the Mat-Su School District and Alaska veterans. Her priorities include ending the federal tax on the PFD, banning wasteful trawling, and urgent help for eroding coastal villages.
“I’m not here to build a career in Washington. I’m here to serve.”
