Candidate Bio

My name is Andrew Chadderdon, and I am running for Regent of the University of Michigan.

As a graduate of the University of Michigan, I have watched my alma mater drift away from the principles that made American higher education a beacon of liberty and free inquiry. Too often, the University has failed to uphold the constitutional rights of its students and faculty—particularly the freedoms protected by the First Amendment, the right to keep and bear arms recognized under the Second Amendment, and the privacy protections guaranteed by the Fourth Amendment.

That must change.

The University should once again embrace the enduring Western tradition of individual liberty, equal justice, and the rule of law. As Founding Father John Adams famously wrote, America should be “a government of laws, and not of men.” Those principles demand that the law be applied equally to every student, faculty member, and administrator—without regard to ideology, politics, or status.

As Regent, I will work to ensure that the University of Michigan is a place where constitutional rights are respected, intellectual diversity is welcomed, and every member of our community is treated equally under the law.
