Republican and Democratic politicians support virtually identical policies designed to constantly escalate the scope and size of government, Libertarian Party Executive Director Carla Howell said in an interview featured Tuesday on the PressTV website. This stands in sharp contrast to the wishes of the vast majority of the American people.
“The Democrat and Republican politicians are no different,” said Howell. “But the people who support them, the rank-and-file Republicans, are very much like Libertarians, and some Democrats are as well. Most Americans, across the board, want less government. They think government is too powerful, they think government’s doing too much, and they think government is spending too much. And that’s what the Libertarian Party is here for — to reduce government power, government intrusion, government spending, and government foreign meddling.”
Howell pointed out that politicians use language that conceals their true intentions, misleading the voters who believe that government is far too large and powerful to support parties and political leaders who enact more of the same failed policies. Only the Libertarian Party has a consistent message of slashing government spending, shrinking debt and deficits, and eliminating the laws and bureaucracies that interfere with people’s lives and livelihoods.
“We represent what a majority of Americans want,” Howell said. “But, unfortunately, elected politicians don’t vote that way. They [Democrats and Republicans] both vote for Big Government. Republicans, in particular, pretend to advocate for less government. They use rhetoric to this effect all the time, and it’s convinced a lot of the rank-and-file Republicans that at least they’re not as bad as the Democrats. We know better. We know that they are voting virtually the same as the Democrats and misleading Americans who want a much smaller government than we have today.”
By joining the Libertarian Party and supporting its candidates, voters can actually shrink Big Government instead of supporting Republican and Democratic politicians who only pretend they care about what Americans want.
