Libertarian Party Chairman Bill Redpath, and the West Virginia Libertarian Party, lobbied extensively in Charleston to secure passage of a bill cutting in half the number of signatures a newer party candidate would need to get on the ballot, and giving parties a reasonable amount of time to get the signatures.
HB 2981, authored by Delegate Barbara Evans Fleischauer (D – Monongalia) and approved by the Legislature, was signed into law Friday by Governor Joe Mancin. Delegate Fleischauer’s husband, West Virginia University law professor Bob Batress, also consulted her on the legislation and has been a pro-bono attorney for the LP and the LPWV on several lawsuits over the past 20 years.
The Libertarian Party thanks everyone who worked on and supported this important reform.
