Libertarian Angela McArdle is running in a special election for U.S. House for California’s 34th District, which includes most of downtown Los Angeles. The primary election is set for April 4. The top two vote-getters will advance to the general election on June 6.
Democrat Xavier Becerra, who last held the seat, resigned on January 24 to become Attorney General of California. He was appointed by Gov Jerry Brown after the former attorney general, Kamala Harris, won her election in November to become the state’s junior U.S. Senator.
More than ten Democrats are running for the seat. No Republican has filed to run.
McArdle is running for federal office in order to slash the U.S. military’s “war chest,” balance the federal budget, eliminate needless bureaucracies, promote free trade, fully legalize cannabis and hemp, repeal the Patriot Act and NDAA, and eliminate all laws criminalizing drug use.
