Property Rights

The Libertarian Party defines all human rights within the context of property rights, starting with self-ownership, and stemming outward with individual physical property.

In alignment with this foundation to a free society, the Libertarian Party rejects any forcible confiscation of property (even if compensation is made, as with eminent domain), unless it is to bring restitution for a criminal harm or civil harm in which the defendant has been tried and convicted and/or found liable in court.

Civil asset forfeiture, the taking of property without being charged with a crime, also falls under this violation of property rights, and must be abolished.

Property rights are human rights.
