Healthcare costs in America are the highest in the world. American cancer survival rates are also the highest in the world. These two things are both connected, however do not need to be.
The American healthcare system, like many of our systems, is captured by cronyism and the regulatory marketplace. The influence of the medical, pharmaceutical and insurance industries essentially runs the government’s regulatory approach to healthcare. That regulatory approach, which includes skyrocketing costs for FDA submissions and approvals that slow research and drug rollouts, while eliminating all but the biggest companies from the market, benefits no citizen. What it does is enrich and protect large interests, lobbyists, and government control.
Healthcare in America was not, and need not, be expensive. Regulations in the insurance marketplace, on top of onerous and costly governmental reporting and bureaucracy, have driven up costs while hiding the healthcare industry behind an impenetrable veil of secrecy.
We will deregulate, and mandate transparency in the marketplace for: drugs, healthcare procedures, insurance, and other elements of our broken system. We will eliminate government-granted monopolies on opening hospitals and healthcare clinics. We will remove the monopoly on medical licensing the government has granted the American Medical Association.
Our government and the large healthcare corporations are working to paint us into a corner where socialized healthcare is the “only option,” due to the costs they themselves have embedded in the system. We will upend, and return the system to the marketplace, leading to rapidly lowered costs for every sector of healthcare. Americans will not need to fear one health incident any longer.
