From Volunteer Coordinator Austin Petersen:
This past week, Bob Sullentrup (Secretary of the LNC) and I delivered a letter to the Commission on Presidential Debates. In it, Bob criticized the selection criteria requiring at least 15 percent in three national polls. The CPD lists specifically in the rules that to be included in the debates:
“…the candidate have a level of support of at least 15% of the national electorate as determined by five selected national public opinion polling organizations, using the average of those organizations’ most recent publicly reported results at the time of the determination.”
The problem with this is that not all national polls even include Bob Barr in their questioning. Thus, how would you ever poll at 15 percent if your name was not included in the polls? And, the CPD does not list whose polls they use. The criteria are ridiculous for its ambiguity. The basis for exclusion is unreasonable, subjective, and unethical.
If the People of the United States (over 55 percent of them) say they want Bob Barr in the debates, then that should be enough. We should demand that the CPD open the debates to those candidates who are constitutionally eligible to hold office and hold a mathematical chance of winning.
Please call the Commission on Presidential Debates at (202) 872-1020 and politely request that they include Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party nominee for president, in the presidential debates.
It is very important that you are professional, respectful and courteous when you call. Explain that Congressman Barr is having an impact in the election and that a recent Zogby poll found that 55 percent of voters want to include him in the debates.
Please email me your results and experiences and thank you for everything you do for the cause of liberty.
