Faced with a declining budget for FY 2010, D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty has a last-ditch plan to find $4.4 million in savings — releasing as much as 80 percent of DC’s prison inmates.
Fenty still plans, however, to spend $4 million on an "Office of Community Affairs" so residents can "engage the District’s diverse communities in civic life" (a $1 million increase from last year,) increase the "Serve DC" budget to $4.2 million to promote "national service" and "volunteerism" and spend a whopping $97 million to promote concerts, conventions and sports events.
