Reports To: Executive Director

Job Summary

  • Responsible for running the national grassroots action program to recruit and engage volunteer activists to support the Libertarian Party’s political and program priorities with timely, engaging, and effective digital grassroots campaigns. Act as a service provider for state affiliates.
  • Oversee development and implementation of support materials and services, including ladders of engagement, for our grassroots activists. Can include tactics like letter-writing campaigns, virtual events, coordinating lobbying or protest days, phone and text banking, harnessing our activists’ stories to support the need for Libertarian progress, and organizing trainings and tips to support more impactful advocacy goals and to maintain a strong bond with our most committed constituents.
  • Personify Libertarian Party values: respectful, positive, principled, innovative, driven, action-oriented, responsive, solutions-focused, liberty-centric, and fun.

Primary Relationships

  • The position reports to the Executive Director and may serve as a member of the leadership team charting the direction of the Organization, assuring its accountability to all constituencies, and ensuring its effective operation.
  • Within the Organization, the position coordinates at the strategic and tactical levels with other departments, especially Development for activist-to-donor conversion, and Political and Communications on coordinated messaging.
  • Outside the Organization, the position coordinates with our state/local affiliates.

Principal Accountabilities: Outreach, Organizing, and Grassroots Engagement

  1. Serve as team leader and subject matter expert to develop, recommend, and execute robust in-person and digital grassroots advocacy campaigns to inspire and bond our constituents with the party as well as leverage our base of supporters to flex our political muscle in Washington and around the country.
  2. Collaborate with the core Development team, Political team, policy experts, and state affiliates. Demonstrate strong interpersonal and organizational skills to work with a broad cross-section of diverse stakeholders to develop and vet content and fine tune and meet campaign goals. Maintain a calendar of advocacy campaigns to ensure clear coordination.
  3. Develop energetic and on-brand content that stands out in our constituents’ inboxes and delivers our core messages with our unique, solutions-focused, liberty-based approach to the nation’s political challenges.
  4. Develop and deploy emails, action alerts, and other engagement methods to leverage every engagement opportunity to drive more interactions, reach and recruit more supporters, and get our message out.
  5. Ensure that evaluation systems are in place related to these goals and objectives and report progress to the Executive Director, Chair and Board (LNC). Track, analyze, and report on relevant metrics on results of strategies.

  1. Make recommendations for new engagement tools and tactics to enhance our advocacy campaigns.
  2. Lead projects as assigned.

Qualifications Required

  1. Successful experience building and managing coalitions and engaging grassroots volunteers to create change. Experience with the principles of member and activist cultivation and online social networking.
  2. Experience working with tools to segment supporters based on previous engagements and interactions.
  3. Strong writing skills, specifically as it relates to direct response content.
  4. Strong interest in relevant news and a drive to be proactive in rapidly responding to activism opportunities.
  5. Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams. Strong oral and written communications skills. Ability to manage multiple projects at a time. Good judgment, initiative, and ability to anticipate problems and follow through with confidence. Out-of-town, overnight travel is required.
