LP Monday Message: Convention, Tea Parties, and Boortz

April 12, 2010

Dear Friend of Liberty,

Radio host Neal Boortz has been booted from our St. Louis National Convention speaker lineup. On April 2, Boortz told his listeners that voters should not support third parties in the 2010 and 2012 elections, in order to get Republicans elected. Shortly after, our convention committee chair jettisoned Neal Boortz from our speaker lineup. The LP Georgia and LP Texas have issued messages about it.

I know some of you will be glad to hear that Boortz was booted, and others will be disappointed. Either way, if you haven’t registered yet, please register for the National Convention. The Early Bird price was extended and expires again today. I apologize on behalf of the convention webmaster–the references to Boortz have not yet been removed from the website. Again, Boortz will not be a speaker at this year’s convention.

As you know, this Thursday, April 15 is tax day. There are a lot of tax day protests going on around the country. You can find a list of many such scheduled protests here.

We’ve created a flyer you can use to introduce people at these events to the Libertarian Party. I hope you’ll print out some copies of this flyer and hand them out at a tax protest or Tea Party in your area.

There has been much debate about whether Libertarians should work with the Tea Parties, recruit from them, or stay away from them. We’re taking a poll on this issue, and I want your feedback.

Sincerely,

Wes Benedict
Executive Director
Libertarian National Committee
