The Libertarian Party was officially founded on December 11, 1971 in Colorado by a group of disillusioned Republicans, Democrats and political newcomers. 

To learn a little more of the history of the Libertarian Party, we invite you to visit our History Page.  In celebration of our birthday, it seems appropriate to share two important pieces of our rich and proud history.

In order to celebrate our birthday, we are also releasing a video history of the Libertarian Party.  It explores some of the rich tradition of the LP, including some exciting conventions, campaigns and commercials.
